In 1935, he emigrated to New York and was hired by LIFE Magazine as one of its first staff photographers. Using a 35mm camera, Eisenstaedt captured world leaders, celebrities, artists, and everyday people and scenes with decision and tenderness.
The German-born photographer is perhaps best known for his iconic photo called "The Kiss" of a jubilant sailor kissing a nurse in New York City's Times Square celebrating VJ-Day on August 14, 1945,

I could stay for hours and watch a raindrop.” An extremely influential photographer, Eisenstaedt has been called the “Father of Photojournalism.” Alfred Eisenstaedt will be inducted into the International Photography Hall of Fame at a ceremony October 30th, 2020.
